# Create and launch a study

> Build a study, add research methods, and make it live for participants.

A study collects participant responses and behavioural evidence inside a project. You can start from scratch or use a template when one is available.

## Create the study

1. Open the project where the study belongs.
2. Click **Add Study from scratch**.
3. Enter the **Study name**.
4. Optional: add a **Study description**.
5. Click **Build Study**.

Fred opens the study builder.

  To start from an existing setup, click **Start from a template** instead.

## Build the study

1. Review the **Welcome** step.
2. Click **Add method** or **Add new block**.
3. Choose the method you want to add.
4. Configure the method instructions, questions, tasks, or choices.
5. Repeat for each method you need.
6. Review the **Thank you** step.
7. Save your changes.

Depending on your plan, some methods or advanced options may require an upgrade.

## Preview before launch

Use **Preview** to review the participant experience before making the study live.

Check that:

* instructions are clear
* required questions are configured
* method order is correct
* the final thank-you message is appropriate

## Go live

1. Click **Go live**.
2. Choose the start date.
3. Optional: add an end date.
4. Confirm.

The study becomes live and can collect responses.

  If you have unsaved changes, Fred may ask you to save them before launch. Save the current version before sharing the study link.

## Pause or complete a study

For a live study, use the study actions menu to:

* **Pause Study** when you need to stop collection temporarily
* **Complete Study** when collection is finished
